Goals

To understand how experiences can create empathy through examples and research techniques. The research will help create a campaign for a new Conservation Gallery for the Dianne Fossey Gorilla Fund in Rwanda.

Early Findings

  • A Stanford University project, titled "Becoming Homeless" used virtual reality to guide people through the experience of homelessness. The study found that using VR had a longer lasting impact on participants.
  • USA Today's "The Wall" is an example of an online experience using video, VR and real life stories, designed to create empathy.
  • That Dragon, Cancer is a gaming experience raising awareness for childhood cancers.
  • When creating an experience that creates empathy, it is important to make sure you know your audience.
