The Academy Awards

Goals

To provide a list of people of color and women who have been nominated or won the Academy Awards since its inception (if possible) in the following categories; production design, film editing, sound editing, makeup/hairstyling, sound mixing, visual effects, and costume design. Also, to include all winners (including whites) who have won in the listed categories.

Early Findings

  • During our initial hour of research, we were able to fill the the attached spreadsheet with 2020 winners and nominees.
  • We defined people of color as those who are not white, i.e., Latin, Asian, Middle Eastern, and African.

Summary

  • Due to the limited time in our initial hour of research, we could not verify the ethnicity of some of the winners and female nominees. Additional hours of research is also required to provide details for subsequent years.
