Android Screen Sizes: Europe

Goals

To identify the breakdown of mobile phone screen sizes of Android users in Europe.

Early Findings

  • Data from MobiForge on screen sizes in Europe is available about three-quarters down the page, under a heading called, "Screen Size (Aspect Ratio)". Data is available for Europe, as well as North America, South America, Africa, Asia and Oceania.
  • Another article from early 2019 gives some research on a country-level basis for the most screen sizes in inches for that country.
  • Denmark's top 5 screen sizes are 4.7, 5.0, 5.5, 4.0 and 5.8 inches.
  • Finland's top 5 screen sizes are 4.7, 4.0, 5.2, 5.5 and 5.0 inches.
  • France's top 5 screen sizes are 4.7, 5.5, 5.2, 5.0 and 5.8 inches.
  • Germany's top 5 screen sizes are 4.7, 5.1, 5.2, 5.5 and 5.0 inches.
  • Ireland's top 5 screen sizes are 4.7, 5.0, 4.0, 5.5 and 5.1 inches.
  • Italy's top 5 screen sizes are 4.7, 5.2, 5.5, 5.0 and 5.1 inches.
  • The Netherlands' top 5 screen sizes are 4.7, 5.5, 5.1, 5.2 and 5.8 inches.
  • Norway's top 5 screen sizes are 4.7, 5.5, 5.8, 5.1 and 5.2 inches.
  • Poland's top 5 screen sizes are 5.0, 5.2, 5.5, 4.7 and 5.1 inches.
  • Romania's top 5 screen sizes are 5.0, 5.2, 5.5, 4.7 and 5.1 inches.
  • Spain's top 5 screen sizes are 5.5, 5.0, 4.7, 5.2 and 5.1 inches.
  • Sweden's top 5 screen sizes are 4.7, 5.5, 5.8, 4.8 and 5.1 inches.
  • The UK's top 5 screen sizes are 4.7, 5.5, 4.0, 5.8 and 5.1 inches.
  • Most iPhone models have a 4.7 inch screen, hence the reason for that size's leading position in many European countries. If that size is 'eliminated' from the listing, the next most popular size is 5.0 inches. Several older Android models have a 5 inch screen, like the Google Pixel (and Pixel 2), the Samsung Galaxy S4, Motorola moto g5 and HTC One M8 and A9.
  • 5.5 inches is also quite popular, which unfortunately crosses over with several newer iPhone models. However, Android phones that are 5.5 inches include Google Pixel XL and Pixel 3, HTC U11 and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.
