Research Outline

Management Consulting Industry: Recruitment Spend

Goals

To determine the annual spend on recruitment in the management consulting industry broken down by country/region over the last 5 years.

Early Findings

Preliminary research to determine the annual spend on recruitment in the management consulting industry broken down by country/region over the last 5 years shows unavailability of data points.

Canada

2019
  • In 2019, the operating expenses of the management consulting service sector was $10,936.4 million.
  • Assuming 0.8% was spent on recruitment, the total spend on recruitment in 2019 can be estimated as ($10,936.4 million*0.8%) = $87.5 million.
2018
  • In 2018, the operating expenses of the management consulting service sector was $10,438 million.
  • Assuming 0.8% was spent on recruitment, the total spend on recruitment in 2018 can be estimated as ($10,438 million*0.8%) = $83.5 million.
2017
  • In 2017, the operating expenses of the management consulting service sector was $10,083.2 million.
  • Assuming 1% was spent on recruitment, the total spend on recruitment in 2017 can be estimated as ($10,083.2 million*1%) = $100.8 million.
2016
  • In 2016, the operating expenses of the management consulting service sector was $9,608.7 million.
  • Assuming 1.1% was spent on recruitment, the total spend on recruitment in 2016 can be estimated as ($9,608.7 million*1.1%) = $105.7 million.
2015
  • In 2015, the operating expenses of the management consulting service sector was $9,069.8 million.
  • Assuming 1% was spent on recruitment, the total spend on recruitment in 2015 can be estimated as ($9,069.8 million*1%) = $90.7 million.

Summary of Preliminary Research

  • The initial hour of research did not find pre-compiled data on the annual spend of management consulting companies on recruitment for any country or region.
  • However, based on the assumption that the "Other non-production-related costs and expenses" segment from the Canadian management consulting sector is inclusive of the total expenses made on recruitment, we were able to estimate the most that could possibly be spent on recruitment.
  • Due to the unavailability of useful data as requested, we propose further triangulations and assumptions to estimate what was spent in other countries as suggested below.
