Average Revenue Per Employee: e-Commerce Companies

Goals

To provide the average revenue per employee at e-commerce companies, including an example of a company with headcount data and estimated revenue. This will be used to target ecommerce companies with above $3million in sales per year for a lead generation project for agency services.

Early Findings

  • While there are industry average data for various industries, such as the $2,565,277 for the internet, mail order & online shops industry (as reported by CSI Market), no source provides any specific data for the ecommerce industry.
  • The top 10 ecommerce companies in the US include Amazon, Walmart, eBay, Apple, The Home Depot, Wayfair, Best Buy, Target, Costco, and Macy's.
  • In the attached spreadsheet, the revenue, employee count, and the revenue per employee for the top 10 ecommerce companies above have been provided.
  • Based on these ten companies, the average revenue per employee is $290,147.
