To ascertain the best way to manage files/folders for an internal file server for an engineering firms with a view to reducing the search time.

Engineering Folder Structure

  • There are a number of structures that engineering folders can take. The first sample outlines the structure for project startup, design, planning, contract, procurement, health & safety, technical, QAQC, and compliance.
  • According to Hicks et al., (figure 1) files can be saved in a drive with up to 3-4 tiers of folders and sub-folders.
  • In this sample, there is a folder for admin, clients, finance, and products.
