Research Outline

Career Certifications Tree by Industry

Goals

To provide a list of certifications for all disciplines in all industries or a library of certifications issued for all professions. Ideally, the findings should provide a source whereby one can buy or download an existing certification ontology. If this is not available, a list of sources to help with building the list can be provided.

Early Findings

Sources that Can be Used to Compound the List of Professional Certifications for all Industries

  • The following source provides certifications, broken down by career fields.
  • This source contains a list of professional designations and certifications and includes most of the globally-recognized industry certifications.
  • This source is called Careeronestop and is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor. It contains a Certification Finder which can be used to conduct searches by certification name, organization, industry, or occupation.
  • Tests.com also provides valuable information on careers and certification that can be used to compound the list.

Summary of Early Findings

  • We spent the first hour of research
  • We were not provided with a geographic focus for this project, so we assumed a narrow approach and looked specifically at the United States. If a more broad approach is desired, for example, a global view, this would have to be clearly communicated to us in any reply. However, the sources highlighted that some of the certifications are "top globally-recognized industry credentials."
  • We could not find a source to buy or download existing certification details.
  • Therefore, we provided four sources that we found during the first hour of research and we determined that these can be used to compound the list.
  • Please select one or more of the options provided in the scoping section below.
