Fleet Sales by Class

Cars ( small, midsize, full)

Small Cars
  • 1,849,355 new small cars were sold in the U.S. in 2019.
  • In comparison, 2,035,221 new small cars were sold in the U.S. in 2018.
Midsize Cars
  • 1,542,932 new midsize cars were sold in the U.S. in 2019.
  • In 2018; 1,701,471 new midsize cars were sold in the U.S.
Full (large) Cars
  • 256,604 new large cars were sold in the U.S. in 2019.
  • 320,022 new large cars were sold in the U.S. in 2018.

Truck sales class 1 thru 8

Class 3
  • In 2017, there were 317,213 new class 3 trucks sold in the U.S.
  • In 2018, there were 300,758 new class 3 trucks sold in the U.S.
Class 8
  • In 2018; 250,545 new class 8 trucks were sold in the U.S.

Fuel type

Electric Vehicles
  • 330,000 new electric vehicles were sold in the U.S. in 2019.
  • In 2018; 361,000 new electric vehicles were sold in the U.S.
  • Around 200,000 new electric vehicles were sold in the U.S. in 2017.
Diesel Cars
  • In 2017, there were 121,165 light duty new diesel vehicles sold in the U.S.
  • In 2018, there were 132,230 light duty new diesel vehicles sold in the U.S.
  • In comparison, there were 343,041 new diesel work trucks sold in the U.S. in 2017 and 385,790 in 2018.
