Grant Writers in the United States

Goals

To determine how many people work as grant writers in the United States to include a total number, and then a breakdown of that number as available by the following major categories of Technical Science-Based Projects vs. Non-Profits.

Early Findings

We were unable to determine an exact number of grant writers in the United States or an exact breakdown in the major categories of technical science based projects vs. non-profits. However, our initial research did reveal statistical insights that could estimate an approximate number of professional grant writers in the United States. Here are key pieces of information we found:
Grant Writers in the United States The U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics (BLS) does not collect data specific to grant writers and counts them among other types of writers and authors.
Grant Writers of America has 3,171 members on their private group Facebook page.
The Grant Professional's Association has over 2,900 active members in five different categories of:  Professional, Entry-Level, Student, Legacy, and Retiree, with the Professional membership being the most popular.
The American Grant Writer's Association is the national association of professional grant writers and has over 1,200 members who work as employees or grant consultants at government agencies, school districts, higher education institutions, corporations, foundations, native tribes, and non-profit organizations throughout the United States and abroad.
