Understand the actual number of people that moved into New York State from another state or oversees in 2018.

This margin is figured with a 90% confidence interval.
  • In the same year there was an estimate of 133,684 people that moved into the state of New York from abroad with a margin of error of +/- 8,451 people.
  • As of 2018 there was an estimate of 19,329,704 people living in the state that had lived there over 1 year with 17,327,068 people estimated to be living in the same house during the same time period.

Since the data in the spreadsheet provided only looked at number by state, this data is relating to the number of people that moved into New York State not New York City. We suggest continuing research by attempting to determine the estimated number of people that moved to New York City from out of state and abroad in 2018. If the number is not publicly available we can use the above data as a proxy to calculate the estimated number of people that moved to NYC in 2018 from out of state or abroad using the percentage of the New York State population that NYC has.
Alternatively, we could continue research on the spreadsheet to provide a historical look at the number of people per year that moved to New York state over the last 5 years (2013-2017) from out of state and abroad.
