To find out about government tax incentives and support for small businesses becoming more sustainable or greener. Incentives can be on a federal level or in NY, CT, RI, MA.

Early Findings

Business Energy Investment Tax Credit

  • The Business Energy Investment Tax Credit provides a federal tax credit for renewables including solar, geothermal, fuel cells and wind.
  • The credits are 26% for solar, fuel cells, wind, and 10% for geothermal, microturbines and CHP.

New York

  • New York has 123 energy efficiency programs. These include commercial and residential programs and incentives.

Connecticut

  • Connecticut has 77 energy efficiency programs. These include commercial and residential programs and incentives.

Rhode Island

  • Rhode Island has 57 energy efficiency programs. These include commercial and residential programs and incentives.

Massachusetts

  • Massachusetts has 99 energy efficiency programs. These include commercial and residential programs and incentives.
Early findings suggests that the only available tax incentive at a federal level have been detailed above. The Renewable Electricity Production Tax Credit expired in December 2019.

As the initial research suggests there are a number of programs for New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts, we suggest identifying 4-6 tax incentives or programs for each state. For each program, we will provide information on the program and how much the incentive is.
