Goals
To find demographic information on Hispanic-Americans in the U.S. aged 21-39 years. This information will be used to understand the demographic more so as to help guide creative and brand identity for a craft beer brand.
Early Findings
Hispanic-Americans Key Facts
- According to the Pew Research Center, nearly 50% of U.S. born Latinos are younger than 18 years. This fact means that "Hispanics are the youngest major racial or ethnic group in the United States."
- In 2014, around a third or 17.9 million of the Latino population in the U.S. was younger than 18 years while around a quarter or 14.6 million, of all Hispanics were millennials aged 18 to 33.
- Today, the Hispanic population in the United States is approximated at 58.9 million.
- The top three states by share of America's Hispanic population are California, Texas, and Florida.
- On the other hand, the top 10 U.S. metropolitan areas by Hispanic population are Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Houston, Riverside, CA, Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Phoenix, San Antonio, and San Diego.
Education Attainment
- In regard to educational attainment:
- All Hispanics: 59% of all Hispanics have reached high school or less, 25% have two-year degrees/some college, and 16% have Bachelor's degree or more.
- U.S. born Hispanics: 47% of U.S. born Hispanics have reached high school or less, 33% have two-year degrees/some college, and 20% have Bachelor's degree or more.
- Foreign born Hispanics: 71% of foreign born Hispanics have reached high school or less, 17% have two-year degrees/some college, and 12% have Bachelor's degree or more.
Poverty
- 19% of all Hispanics are living in poverty, 20% of U.S. born Hispanics are living in poverty, and 18% of foreign Hispanics are living in poverty.
Demographic Characteristics
- 20% of all Hispanics are aged between 18 to 29 years while 15% of all Hispanics are aged between 30 to 39 years.
- 22% of U.S. born Hispanics are aged between 18 to 29 years while 12% of U.S. born Hispanics are aged between 30 to 39 years.
- 14% of foreign born Hispanics are aged between 18 to 29 years while 22% of foreign born Hispanics are aged between 30 to 39 years.
Marital Status
- 46% of all Hispanics are married, 16% are divorced/separated/widowed, and 38% were never married.
- 36% of U.S. born Hispanics are married, 15% are divorced/separated/widowed, and 49% were never married.
- 58% of foreign born Hispanics are married, 17% are divorced/separated/widowed, and 25% were never married.
