Goals

To provide (i) the total number of sportsfields with grass globally, (ii) the number of golf courses in the world and in each continent, (iii) the number of soccer fields in the world and in each continent, (iv) the number of American football fields in the world and in each continent, (v) the number of lacrosse fields in the world and in each continent, (vi) the number of baseball fields in the world and in each continent, (vii) the number of hockey fields in the world and in each continent, (viii) the number of softball fields in the world and in each continent, (ix) the number of cricket fields in the world and in each continent, (x) the number of frisbee fields in the world and in each continent, (xi) the number of outdoor basketball fields in the world and in each continent, (xii) the number of horse tracks in the world and in each continent, (xiii) the number of hockey fields in the world and in each continent, and (xiv) the number of equestrian event fields in the world and in each continent.

Early Findings

  • The total number of golf courses in the world was 38,864 as of 2019.
  • 78% of golf courses globally "are located in just 10 countries: the United States, Japan, Canada, England, Australia, Germany, France, Republic of Korea, Sweden and Scotland."
  • There are 8,940 golf courses in Europe, representing 23% of the world's total.
  • North America represents 51% of the world's total, with 19,826 golf courses.
  • There are 6,349 golf courses in Asia.
  • There are 2,109 golf courses in Oceania.
  • There are 932 golf courses in Africa.
  • There are 708 golf courses in South America.
