Research Outline

Demographics: US Food Delivery Apps

Goals

To identify the demographic profile of food delivery app users, specifically for apps such as DoorDash, Postmates, Seamless, and Grubhub. This research would help in understanding the competitors of a potential client.

Early Findings

  • According to Verto Analytics, Grubhub’s app users largely comprise of American adults aged between 25 to 34 years and 45 to 54 years. Both of these age groups lead with 32.2% of share each. Adults over 55 years constitute 20.7% of all Grubhub users in the United States.
  • However, Grubhub isn't popular among young adults aged between 18 to 24 years as they make up only 5% of all users. Grubhub's user age profile is apparently different as compared to the age profile of the general food delivery app users in the United States. The young adults aged 18 to 29 years are the largest users of food delivery apps in the US that make up 63% of all users.
  • American women (64.3%) use Grubhub more than men (35.7%).
  • Americans with income lower than $9,999 use online food delivery apps more at 51.6% as compared to the other income groups.
