Top-Selling Products & Categories on Amazon by Sales Volume

Goals

Identify the product categories that have the highest sales on Amazon. Then, determine the top selling products by sales volume in each of category identified. This information will be used to determine which products sell on Amazon.

Early Findings

Amazon's top-selling products and categories vary significantly yearly and month-to-month, depending on new pop culture debuts, product availability, political timelines, and yearly events/holidays. Regardless of placement, however, the top categories based on percent of total items sold on Amazon remain relatively the same:
  • Books
    • 15.9% of total items sold in 2018
    • 33% of Amazon shoppers said this was their leading product purchase category in February 2019
  • Health & Beauty
    • 11.5% of total items sold in 2018
    • 6.2% of total sales from 2016-2019
    • 36% of Amazon shoppers said this was their leading product purchase category in February 2019
  • Electronics & Accessories
    • 10.8% of total items sold in 2018
    • 44% of Amazon shoppers said this was their leading product purchase category in February 2019
  • Home & Kitchen
    • 10.5% of total items sold in 2018
    • 39% of Amazon shoppers said this was their leading product purchase category in February 2019
  • Software & Mobile Apps
    • 6.9% of total items sold in 2018
    • 28% of Amazon shoppers said this was their leading product purchase category in February 2019)
  • Clothing & Accessories
    • 6.3% of total items sold in 2018
