Mattress Sales, Online vs. Brick and Mortar

Goals

To provide information on the percentage of mattress purchases in the US that are made through brick and mortar retail stores vs. online purchases, in order to better understand sales channels to inform media targeting

Early Findings

  • Online brands are also increasingly partnering with brick-and-mortar retailers to connect with consumers.
  • Globally, 10% of retail mattress stores were via an e-commerce channel.
  • The e-commerce sales of mattresses were concentrated in 6 countries where sales exceeded $100 million in 2018 with the US, UK & Germany at the top of the list.
  • Online shoppers were most likely to note that their reason to purchase a mattress was that their existing mattress wasn't providing adequate sleep.
