MVNO M&A Transactions

Goals

Identify recent M&A deals involving mobile virtual network operators (MVNO) around the world.

Early Findings

Several MVNOs that were involved in M&A deals were listed below.

GREAT CALL INC. GreatCall Inc. was bought by Best Buy for $800 million.
 GreatCall is an MVNO under the Verizon company in the US.
It has around 900,000 subscribers.
The deal was initiated by Best Buy to enable them to expand more into the booming health sector.

ROBIN MOBILEIn the Netherlands, the Robin Mobile MVNO was acquired by the Nuts Groep. 
The MVNO was formerly under Ramphastos Investments and Wilfred Rottier, the founder and CEO of Robin Mobile. 
The move was part of the Nuts Groep’s plan to expand its product and service lines. 
With Budget Energie and NLE, Nuts Groep has an estimated 700,000 energy customers in the country.
It has more than 100,000 customers in Belgium through its Elegant unit. 
The financial aspects of the deal was not made public.


OMANTELIn Oman, Omantel has recently bought 40% of the Majan Telecommunication (Renna Mobile) MVNO. 
The deal was worth $13 million.
Majan Telecommunications' Renna Mobile brand has approximately 350,000 subscribers.
