Goals

To identify active firms/investors allocating funds and resources in multi-family real estate within the San Francisco Bay Area & Northern California region. Also, identify emerging real estate companies that have been working on single projects in the past, and are now expanding to work on multiple projects. These emerging companies could provide a business opportunity for tailoring a fund-raising strategy for managing funds for multiple real estate development projects.


Early Findings

  • Our preliminary research demonstrates that a growing number of high net worth and family office investors are flocking into value-add multifamily acquisitions. According to Real Capital Analytics, in 2018, the apartment sales have totaled $32 billion in transaction volume, representing around 16% of total U.S. apartment transactions.
  • We narrowed down our focus to search for real estate investment and development companies in the San Francisco Bay area and Northern California. Companies such as Valiance Capital, Sack Properties, Essex Property Trust, Strada Investment Group, Rockwood, were prominently involved in the real estate business with a focus on opportunistic, value-add multi-family, ground-up construction and/or renovation.
