Research Outline

Funding Opportunities

Goals

To provide a list of potential funders who are interested in supporting projects around deconstructing religion, BIPOC/Black-led non-fiction books, and resources for survivors of violence. This will be an Excel or Word Document list of no more than 30 grants and/or direct funders including their website links, contact information, and the subject matter of the grants (only for the grant-type).

Early Findings

The initial round of research indicates that there is limited information available on this topic.
  • Poets & Writers USW Project Grants for BIPOC writers include readings, workshops, or community conversations in genres such as creative nonfiction.
  • The Writers' Colony 2021 Celebrate! Maya Project focuses on social issues such as racial discrimination across literature genres like non-fiction.
  • These funders, including their websites, contact information, and subject matter, have been provided in the attached spreadsheet.

Summary

  • Within the first hour of research, we have been able to identify two organizations that provide grants around BIPOC nonfiction works. We also created a spreadsheet and provided the information in the attached spreadsheet.
  • Also, based on our early findings, we believe that the requested information is limited, as there aren't any database or pre-compiled source that provide such information. Therefore, we recommend further research to dive deeper by reviewing multiple grant-providing organizations and attempt to identify those that match the requested criteria. Details on our recommended research paths have been provided in our proposals below.
  • Note that Wonder does not deliver research in Word or Excel Documents; however, as an alternative, we have used Google Spreadsheet.
  • For all our projects, we have focused on the US but if any geographic focus is desired, this should be clearly communicated to us in any reply.
