FAQ From Family Members of Addicts

Goals

In order to develop content for a podcast, create a list of the most common FAQs that family members of addicts ask about addiction, recovery, sobriety, and how family members can help their loved one. 

Early Findings

Top Addiction WebsitesThe research team identified a list of the top blogs about addiction. The five top blogs focused on addiction recovery/treatment from this list were: SMART Recovery Blog, Recovery Connection, Cathy Taughinbaugh Treatment Talk, Sober Nation, and Addiction Aide Center. 
The research team also reviewed the client requested websites drugfree.org and samhsa.gov. 
Top Addiction Questions by Family MembersOne common question from family members is how to stage an intervention.  
Another common question was how to determine if their loved one is an addict.  
Family members also wanted help finding treatment programs for their loved ones. 
Family members wanted a full overview of how to support their loved ones.  
Family members wanted to find support for themselves.  
Research StrategyThe research team began by identifying five of the top addiction websites. From there, we identified frequently asked questions by family members of addicts and/or common themes related to family questions that were common across many of the websites.
