Goals

To find information on the management of a technical team that is focused on IT governance for a presentation that will show a manager is ready for the management role. Information to be presented will include management strategies, plans, and best practices for managing such a team.

General InformationIT governance "is a formal framework that provides a structure for organizations to ensure that IT investments support business objectives."
Following a formal IT governance framework can result in the production of measurable results that are geared toward achieving an organization's strategies and goals. 
The importance of IT governance is evident in Proctor & Gamble's implementation. This is because the company saved $500 million over four years after implementing an IT governance framework that helped reduce operating costs and streamlined the company's technology teams to achieve significant savings.
The five most common IT governance frameworks include Control Objectives for Information and Related Technologies (COBIT), Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL), the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission (COSO), the Capability Maturity Model Integration framework (CMMI), and Factor Analysis of Information Risk (FAIR).
COBIT is considered the industry standard best practice IT governance framework. 
The importance of IT governance to an organization include "compliance with regulations, competitive advantage, support of enterprise goals, growth and innovation, increase in tangible assets, and reduction of risk."T
