Inform a new business pitch by providing insight on the New River Valley market in Virginia (VA). Research should focus on analyzing what some of the popular magazines might be, the typical demographic in the area and what destinations in the area can be used to market to potential visitors.

Final research should be presented in a spreadsheet.

Early Findings

  • The New River Valley is composed of one independent city (Radford) and four counties (Floyd, Giles, Montgomery, and Pulaski), with ten interconnected towns (Blacksburg, Christiansburg, Dublin, Floyd, Glen Lyn, Narrows, Pearisburg, Pembroke, Pulaski, and Rich Creek).
  • Top employment by sector are government employees (27.2%), manufacturing (17.7%) and retail trade (11.7%).
  • Data on popular magazines in the region is unavailable. The team looked into alternative ways to derive the data, such as assuming popular magazines based on the demographic data, but the demographic spread for this region is too wide for this information to be helpful (for example, the area is almost evenly split between males and females). Instead, the team has provided newspapers that have high circulation numbers AND are available in the region within the research.
