Tech Companies Unlimited Time Off

Goals

To find tech companies offering unlimited time off plans to employees and the reason why they offer them. The ideal research will focus on companies with the following characteristics:
  • US-based companies.
  • The company must be in the tech sector.
  • Offers unlimited Paid Time Off with managers approvals
  • Mixed exempt and non-exempt populations.
  • Must have at least 1500 total US employees.
  • Include companies Not based in California
  • Targets would include Salesforce.com, Netflix, AWS, other hardware and services companies like Dell, Apple, Microsoft, HP, Oracle, other cloud-based technology resellers, DataQuest, CDW.
  • Trends surrounding tech companies and PTO.

Early Findings

Data Availability

  • Our initial research suggests that while there is enough data available for companies that offer unlimited time off, the companies do not always satisfy all the criteria listed. Data on companies that satisfy all the criteria may be limited.

Unlimited Time Off Tech Companies

  • Salesforce is an example of a tech company that offers unlimited time off. The company's Vacation policy typically offers paid time off and gives employees unlimited days off a year.
  • Salesforce's PTO and vacation Package represents an average of $1500 - $2500 cash value monthly. Salesforce employees voted unlimited time off as the second-most important benefit offered by the company.
  • Amazon used to offer unlimited paid time off for employees but the policy was suspended in April 2020 as a result of the pandemic.
  • Netflix also offers unlimited holidays to all salaried employees. Employees can take as much time off and the time off is not tracked.
  • Netflix states that the reason for this policy is to make employees happier and to create a better work-life balance.

Summary

  • We were able to find a number of tech companies that offer unlimited time off during the initial hour of research.
  • Our initial research suggests that we may need to expand to tech companies that satisfy only some of the criteria in other to provide more examples.
  • To provide more companies and trends surrounding PTO in the tech sector, we recommend additional research. Details on our recommended research paths have been provided in our proposals below. Please select one or more proposals from those provided.
