Research Outline

PA First Responders

Goals

To determine the demographics of the three categories of responders in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. This would include the police, fire, and EMS. The Pennsylvania State Police should not be included. This will be used in training for naloxone administration, substance use disorder stigma, and referral to treatment. Particular attention should be paid to the number of active members per county, the average salary, gender, age, and education.

Summary

  • We have focused on EMS during our first hour of research. Unfortunately, time constraints meant we were unable to complete the final list of the number of providers by county.
  • From our first hour of research, it appears the majority of the available data is available at a state level, rather than by county. Given the availability of the information sought, we suggest the following.
