Dating Apps Users

Goals

To build the demographic profile of dating apps users. To understand what kind of language is being used within different platforms and even countries on the matter of getting tested for STDS.

Early Findings

Demographics

Age
  • According to a Statista survey conducted in January 2019, 14% of internet users aged 18-34 in the United States are currently using a dating app. Nearly 9% of internet users aged 35-54 are currently using a dating app. Two percent of internet users aged 55+ currently use a dating app.
  • Twenty-nine percent of internet users aged 18-34 have used a dating website or app in the past, while 31% of internet users aged 35-54 did. Only 16% of internet users aged 55+ have used a dating website or app in the past.
Gender
  • According to a Statista survey conducted in January 2019, 10% of male internet users in the United States are currently using a dating app, while 5% of female internet users currently do so.
  • Twenty-seven percent of male internet users have used a dating app in the past, while 22% of female internet users did.

Top Players

  • The top 10 grossing dating apps in the U.S. for 2018, saw more than $628 million in user spending during the course of the year.
  • As of 2019Q1, the top 10 dating apps in the United States are Tinder, Bumble, Plenty of Fish (POF), Hily, Meet Me, Hinge, Badoo, Match, Zoosk, and OkCupid.
