E-Commerce Sales Percentages
To determine what percentage of all e-commerce sales in the US do Amazon, Walmart, Peapod, Boxed, and Wayfair e-commerce sales represent when added together in order to inform a conference.
Our background research revealed insights. Here are some key pieces of information we found:
- Food and beverage represented less than 3% of US retail e-commerce sales last year.
- Last year, Peapod was "a distant fourth in the grocery wars after Amazon, Walmart and Kroger."
- Last year, Boxed became "a prime acquisition target, and several retailers including, reportedly, Amazon and Kroger, made entreaties. Kroger failed with a $400 million bid, according to Bloomberg."
- The CEO of Boxed is driving US e-commerce sales "through a carefully built combination of technology, millennial-friendly marketing and a well-honed warehouse assortment" and believed earlier this year that 2019 would be "a breakout year for us."
