Early Findings
Australia
The
Australian Consumer Law (ACL)
protects consumers in Australia. It is part of the
Competition and Consumer Act
2010 (CCA).
According to the law, online businesses have the
same rights and obligations
as traditional stores and companies and their online sales practices have to comply with the CCA.
The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC) has elaborated an online
advertising and selling guide
to help businesses comply with the law.
In terms of advertisement, the ACCC guide helps businesses seeking to advertise products that have
environmental and organic merits.
This guide is
regularly updated.
According to the law, the two fundamental rules of advertising and selling are not to make misleading and deceiving claims, and not to engage in
misleading or deceiving conduct.
In regard to
health and medical services
advertisements and sales, businesses have to provide accurate and truthful information about those products.
