During our preliminary research, we were able to determine how much pet owners spend on their pets for the holidays, as well as the type of presents they buy. Below is an overview of our early findings.
How Much
- According to research conducted by the American Pet Products Association
in 2018, pet owners were expected to spend $60 billion on their pets throughout the year.
- One survey by the American Pet Products Association
found that 95% of pet owners planned on buying their pets Christmas presents in 2018.
- Those respondents were likely to spend $36 per pet on gifts.
- Other surveys found that pet owners were expected to spend $647.9 million for gifts for their pets on Valentine's Day in 2019.
- This research also found that dog owners are more likely to get their dog a gift for holidays than cat owners.
- In fact, 5.4 million households were expected to buy gifts for their dogs on Valentine's Day in 2019, as compared to only 2.2 million households getting gifts for their cats.
- Data from PricewaterhouseCoopers found that pet owners between 17 and 21 are willing to spend more than any other group on their pets ($70).
What They Buy
- The research conducted by the American Pet Products Association also found that $20 billion was expected to be spent on Halloween costumes for their pets in 2018.
- The research also determined that 54% of pets were expected to receive a Christmas stocking in 2018.
- 29% of pets were expected to receive a card from their human.
