Goals

Identify five of the most sustainable companies in the US according to consumers. Identify five smart lighting companies that have become leaders either in the sector of smart lighting for horticulture or in the sector of smart lighting for smart cities. Identify five companies that are leading in the smart home market and five companies that are leading in the smart home lighting market and what each of those companies are doing to set themselves apart. Determine how lighting affects mood and wellness. Identify five smart home companies that are considered the most innovative and why they have this image. Finally, identify 5-7 trends in industrial/commercial design and five priorities for companies when it comes to office space.

Early Findings

Sustainable Companies

  • Some of the most eco-friendly companies according to US consumers are TOMS, Patagonia, Beyond Meat, Lush Cosmetics and Amazon.

Smart Lighting Leaders

  • Major players in the smart lighting market are Koninklijke Philips NV, Cree Inc., Eaton Corporation, Wipro Consumer Lighting, and General Electric Company.

Smart Home Leaders

  • Leaders in the smart home market are Google, Amazon, Nest, Philips, Belkin and Samsung.

The initial research was able to identify five companies that are considered the most eco-friendly by US consumers. We recommend further research to determine why consumers have this perception and how it was fostered by the company. We also recommend further research to identify five smart home companies that are considered the most innovative, based on consumer or expert mention, and why they have this image.
We recommend further research to identify five smart lighting companies that have become leaders either in the sector of smart lighting for horticulture or in the sector of smart lighting for smart cities. For each, we will describe why they are a leader in that sector and how they market themselves. Since the initial research was able to determine key players in both the smart home market and the smart lighting market, we recommend further research to provide a competitive landscape of these companies. We can start by doing this for three smart lighting companies and three smart home companies. For each we will describe their products, determine their estimated (or publicly available) revenue, describe their competitive advantage, and describe their marketing strategy.
We recommend further research to identify 3-5 ways lighting affects mood and wellness. Additionally, we will identify 5-7 trends in industrial/commercial design. For each trend, we will describe the trend, determine what is driving the trend, and provide one company exemplifying the trend. Lastly, we will determine five of the top priorities for companies when it comes to office space.
