Early Findings
Shoppify
Strength
Shopify has significant market coverage. The platform powers over one million businesses in more than 175 countries and is trusted by brands such as Allbirds, Gymshark, Heinz, Staples.
The platform is
easy to use
, and it
integrates well
with other apps.
They have the
most versatile retail
POS for unifying in-store and online sales. One million businesses use Shopify to unify their sales wherever they sell. As a result, these business record a 30% increase in revenue year over year.
Their
point of sale
solution has advanced inventory features that allow users to "Generate purchase orders and transfer stock based on inventory forecasts and performance. " It also has unified reporting and custom staff permission.
Their Lite Plan’s ‘
Buy Button
' allows users to sell products on other websites easily. .
Shopify has an
built-in email marketing
tool that allows users to host up to 2,500 subscribers for free.
Weakness
Shopify charges users of "
third-party payment gateway
" transaction fees unlike some of its rivals who
don’t charge any transaction fees
, notwithstanding the payment gateway used.
Also, there are instances where users have to
install a paid-for app
to get the functionality they need.
Shopify's
three options limit
per product is also not ideal.
Summary
During the initial hour of research, we were able to provide some strengths and weaknesses of Shopify Developer platform. Additional hours of research is required to provide more strengths and weaknesses as well as opportunities and threats
We will also need more hours of research to provide a comprehensive SWOT analysis for the remaining SaaS developer platforms. (HubSpot, Slack, Salesforce, Marketo, and Wix.)
