Teeth Straightening: User Journey

Goals

To understand the user journey for an adult (18+) and for a teen (13-17) who want to straighten their teeth to identify any business opportunities in this area.

Early Findings

TEETH STRAIGHTENING MARKET

  • When searching for the best way to straighten one's teeth, one is provided with these options; fixed, removable, lingual, labial, braces, aligners and brackets.

ADULTS

  • Adults in the UK, 26 to 40-year-olds, are showing an increased interest in straightening their teeth.
  • Adults, just like children and teenagers, are embarrassed to wear traditional braces and would prefer the invisible braces option.
  • In adults, treatment using invisible aligners would only need to go for a few weeks if the individual had braces as a child. If not, they can last from one to two years.

TEENAGERS

  • Adults, just like children and teenagers, are embarrassed to wear traditional braces and would prefer the invisible braces option.
  • Invisible aligners are a great option for teenagers but not for children. These aligners are custom-made as a tight-fit for the individual which can become quickly uncomfortable for growing children.

Proposed next steps:

You need to be the project owner to select a next step.
Our initial research indicates that there is plenty of information on the topic. Our analysis shows that this information should be available for adults and teenagers alike. For this reason, we propose determining when and where they decide they need to straighten their teeth, what tools they choose to use (clear aligner vs traditional wires and brackets), and what channels they use to meet their needs (via dentist/ortho or direct from the manufacturer). This will be divided into two; one focusing on adults and a second one focusing on teenagers.
Alternatively, we could provide 2-3 insights into the user-journey in the teeth straightening market for adults and for teenagers as well. These insights can address any of the following; when and where they decide they need to straighten their teeth, what tools they choose to use (clear aligner vs traditional wires and brackets), and what channels they use to meet their needs (via dentist/ortho or direct from the manufacturer).
