Research Outline

Top birding publications and/or websites in the U.S.

Goals

To identify the top seven publications/website in the U.S. for birding based on the highest circulation or highest unique monthly visitors, to help determine which websites to place ad buys on.

Early Findings

  • All About Birds is a birding website based in the United States. About 1.5 million unique visitors frequent the page per month, with 81.16% of visitors coming from the United States.
  • Rescue Me has 977,108 total unique visitors and 96.37% of them are from the United States.
  • The two websites above, as well as four other birding websites, have been added to the attached spreadsheet. The spreadsheet also includes the requested details on all the websites.

Summary of Early Findings

  • While a precompiled list of the most popular birding website is likely not available in the public domain, the research team leveraged SimilarWeb, an online web analytics tool, to provide relevant insights. SimilarWeb has a list of 100 most visited websites in the bird category with accompanying data on the total number of unique visitors in August. The research team used this list to identify websites based in the United States and then extract relevant data from SimilarWeb. Our recommendations have been provided below.
