Goals

Differentiating the roles of the multiple layers of management in hierarchical enterprise organizations globally. The information will enhance consulting on a project to inform reporting useful data to project managers/leaders serving at multiple layers of management. 
Specifically, to provide information on the roles of the multiple layers of management in hierarchical enterprise organizations globally.
To highlight case studies of how some hierarchical enterprise organizations across the globe have effectively differentiated the roles of their multiple layers of management.

Early Findings

Data Availability
The initial round of research indicates that there is adequate information available on this topic.
There are usually three levels of management in organizations and each level performs specific functions different from other levels for the common good of the organization. 
The Need for DifferentiationAccording to Sprigghr, levels of management in an organization refer to the differences that exist in the various managerial roles in the organization. 
 Sprigghr indicated that as organizations grow, they tend to increase their levels of management in order to achieve operational efficiency. Each level represents a specific level of command,  authority, and decision-making influence.  
There are usually three levels of management in organizations and each level performs specific functions different from other levels for the common good of the organization. 
Important Skills for the Different Levels Lumen reported that top-level managers are often industry experts. They are expected to be effective communicators, have a high level of accountability, confidence, integrity, and have a willingness to take risks.
According to Lumen, middle-level managers are usually accountable to the top-level management for their department’s functions. They are expected to align with the company’s policies and the objectives of the top management. 
 Middle-level managers should also communicate information and policies from top management to lower management. They are also expected to inspire and motivate lower-level managers.  
 Lumen highlighted that important skills for frontline managers include interpersonal skills and technical expertise. They include supervisors, team leaders, line managers, and project managers.
The Amazon Case StudyAccording to Pingboard, Amazon has an effective hierarchical structure. Due to its large size, it was important for the company to adopt this structure. 
In the structure, all Amazon employees report up to the founder and CEO. There are several layers of management under the CEO and across the company’s departments. 
 Amazon’s hierarchical organizational structure is effective because the company is organized into several units with each unit under separate management.

Summary
Within the first hour, we have been able to provide information on why organizations adopt the hierarchical structure of management and some important skills each management level should possess.
