UK: Hotel Statistics

Goals

To gather the required information: number of restaurants, average cost of a meal, average price of a weekend hotel stay, average hotel star rating, average cost of a pint of beer, number of free attractions, and average rating of free attractions for the UK cities included in the attached spreadsheet.

Early Findings

Bristol
  • There are 1,268 restaurants in Bristol that serve an eclectic variety of foods including traditional British, Indian, Chinese, Italian, and Thai dishes as well as steak and pizza. This number increases to 1,561 if quick bite places, dessert shops, cafes/coffee and tea shops, bakeries, bars and pubs, and specialty food markets are included,
  • The average cost of a meal in Bristol in an inexpensive restaurant or a mid-range restaurant serving three courses, is £18.75. If a meal at a fast food restaurant is factored in, the average price drops to £14.67 per person.
  • The average cost a weekend hotel stay in a typical single or double occupancy room is £78-£156.
  • The average hotel star rating is 3.4 stars.
  • The average cost of a pint of beer is £4.36.
  • There are 56 free attractions or "things to do" in Bristol, including visiting museums, public parks, and churches and cathedrals.
  • The average star rating of these attractions, based on stars awarded by visitors, is 4 stars.

Glasgow
  • There are 1,835 restaurants in Glasgow that serve an eclectic variety of foods including Indian, Chinese, Italian, Seafood, and Healthy dishes as well as steak and pizza. This number increases to 2,236 if quick bite places, dessert shops, cafes/coffee and tea shops, bakeries, bars and pubs, and specialty food markets are included.
  • The average cost of a meal in Glasgow is $17 per person.
  • The average cost a weekend hotel stay is $250.
  • There average hotel star rating is 3.2 stars.
  • The average cost of a pint of beer is £4.36.
  • Glasgow has as least 221 free attractions. TripAdviser provides a list of 148 which include only some of the over 90 parks and nature areas.
  • The average star rating of these attractions, based on stars awarded by visitors, is 4 stars.
