Research Outline

Equity Rich, Cash Poor Statistics

Goals

The goal of this research is to identify an additional three to five statistics regarding Americans who (1) are asset rich and cash poor and (2) have assets other than a house. This information will be used to pitch investors for a company that would lend money to those seeking to purchase asset protection plans.

Early Findings

  • Among Americans surveyed, "65% say their housing costs are rising faster than their wages."
  • The average home equity among Americans is $122,000 yet just 33% of Americans "believe they can easily access that equity [in their homes]" if needed.
  • A Gallup survey found that as of April 2019, 55% of people in the U.S. owned stock.
  • A different Gallup survey found that 35% of Americans said the "best long-term investment option" is real estate, while 27% of respondents said stocks.
