Goals

Provide information surrounding the number of DUI or criminal defense lawyers in the U.S. Specifically, provide:
  • The total number of lawyers with at least 10 years of experience in DUI or criminal defense and using Clio legal practice management software in the U.S. and broken down by the following states:
    • Washington, Ohio, North Carolina, Colorado, Arizona, Oklahoma, Oregon, Idaho, South Carolina, Louisiana, Tennessee, Texas, Florida, New York, and California.
    • For each state and the U.S., provide the number of lawyers, a list of names, and contact information.

Early Findings

Data Availability

The initial round of research found that data availability is low on this topic. However, we have pivoted this research to find information on the number of licensed attornies in the U.S. and for the listed states irrespective of their area of specialization or years of experience.

Number of Lawyers in the U.S.

  • According to data from The American Bar Association, there are 1.3 million lawyers in the U.S. in 2020.

Summary

  • During the initial hour of research, we found data on the number of lawyers in the U.S. and a breakdown by the states as requested. We also found the total number of organizations using Clio in the U.S.
  • However, determining the number of lawyers in the country and state-wide that have at least 10 years of experience practicing DUI or criminal defense is publicly unavailable.
  • As such, we suggest pivoting this research to provide information on the number of DUI or criminal law lawyers in the U.S. and for the selected states with the proposal below.
