• Geo IoT, when compared to classical asset tracking, offers additional benefits while classical asset tracking only offers positioning.

GPS

•  Global Positioning System is a satellite-based system that allows geolocation outdoors only.
• This technology is very accurate in terms of its location, however, it requires considerable amount of power to operate.
• GPS can provide altitude readings that are accurate up to 10 to 20 meters.

Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE)

• BLE is a wireless technology that operates over short-range communications.
• BLE is accurate depending on the infrastructure used and needs low amounts of power.
• This technology requires Bluetooth for operation.

WiFi

•  WiFi leverages WLANs (Wireless Local Area Networks), i.e. device networks that operate over radio waves.
• WiFi positioning is accurate but may require paid service.

Network-Based Geolocation

• This technology leverages the network infrastructure of the service provider for geolocation.
• This technology works indoors as well as outdoors.
• The accuracy of this technology depends on the network.
